Art – it’s beautiful to look at but do you ever stop to think about the hours it took to create that beautiful work? Having an artist in the house, I know it will take her hours to get a painting done. Sometimes days. It takes great focus, a steady hand, and loads of patients–all things I do not posses.
When I was asked to share what I enjoyed creating, I froze. I am not artistic in any way. I don’t knit, I don’t sew, I don’t cross-stitch, I don’t paint, I don’t –well, you get the idea. If I lived during the eighteenth century, one would say that I am “unaccomplished” (Thank the good Lord we don’t live in that time).
What I do like doing is why you are here today, reading this blog. I like to write. Writing is my creative outlet. Sometimes it’s for myself in my prayer journal, other times it’s character ideas and story plots. To watch my “imaginary friends” come to life on the pages of books is a thrill that is unexplainable sometimes. Think of what it was like to watch your children grow up, or a beloved niece/nephew–the joy of watching them discover things about themselves and the world around them. It’s captivating and a little intoxicating.
